Inviting s.o. to Speak at a Conference

April 15, 2004

Mr. Roger Moriarity
Executive Director
Children With Disabilities Foundation
430 Smithson Drive, Suite 500
Chicago, IL 32956

Dear Mr. Moriarity:

The purpose of this letter is to formally invite you, on behalf of the Board of Directors, to be the Closing Keynote Speaker at the upcoming 2003 IDCRI Conference.

The theme of this conference is "Disabling the Disability - Looking It Straight in the Eye”. It will be held at the Mountainview Conference Facility, in Montpelier, Vermont from November 3 to 5, 2003.

For you information, Susan Crutchlow of Taming the Environment will be the Opening Keynote Speaker. The provisional title of her presentation is "The Disabled Environment - Can We Help It?". We will forward a complete draft speaker program to you in a couple of weeks to give you an idea of the specific subjects that will be covered by the other speakers.

We expect attendance this year to be the highest ever: about 2,000 delegates and 150 speakers. This includes a large contingent from our new European Chapter that is based in Geneva. You may have heard that Dr. Walton Everinson will be presenting a major paper on his latest research into "Genetic ReEngineering". We are already receiving inquiries from all over the world about Dr. Everinson\'s presentation.

In closing, we would be pleased and honoured if you would consent to be our Closing Speaker at the 2004 ICDRI Conference.

I will call you in a week or so to follow up on this.

Yours sincerely,

Dear Mrs Minion

Thank you for your kind letter inviting me to speak at the conference on 22 September on the subject of “Executive Secretaries in British Export Firms”.

I have much pleasure in accepting your invitation, and confirm that I shall require overnight accomodation on 21 September.

I will indeed be most happy to attend your conference and give a talk on the topic suggested by you. Participating in such a conference will give me an opportunity not only to talk about the subject of my interest, but also to see many of my colleagues and friends

I look forward to meeting you and other members of your society at the conference and wish you every success.

Yours sincerely

Acceptance of Invitation 2

Professor Jacque Monroe
University of Oklahoma
Department of Pedagogy
2201 Elm Street
Oklahoma 73069

March 15, 2005

Dear Professor Monroe,

I shall be very pleased to participate in the session chaired by Dr Norman because it will give me an occasion not only to talk about the subject of my interest, but also to see many of my colleagues and friends.

I am uncertain, however, of the type of talk which you are requesting. Would you like me to present a review about some aspects of modern FLT or a talk about my latest interest? In the former case, I am uncertain what topic would fit most readily into your programme: a general overview of the recent developments in the field, or a review entitled ‘Approaches to training FLT teachers’ if you prefer a more detailed talk about my most recent interest I will choose to speak about the latter. Please let me know which type of talk you would like me to present.

Yours sincerely

Dear Mrs Minion:

I am pleased and honoured by the invitation to participate in the conference organized by your society, which is to be held in Kansas, September 20-25, 2004.

I must apologize for the slight delay in replying to your letter. I have just returned from Paris after a visit and did not have your address at hand. I did write, however, to Mr Davis, who is to be chairman of the session in which I was invited to present a paper.

I very much regret to say that it will not be possible for me to make any major trip in the autumn owing to bad health. The only thing I can do is send a few comments to Mr Davis for him to use as he sees fit. Needless to emphasize that - were my health better - I should be delighted to attend your conference, which promises to be a great event. Thank you once more for honouring me with your invitation.

With every good wish for the success of the conference.

Yours sincerely,

Declining an Invitation 2

March 15, 2005

Dear Howard,

Thank you very much for your letter of 3rd May and the information on the coming conference in September. As the conference does not represent my main fields of interest and is only very remotely connected with the research my Institute is carrying out just now, I should find it very difficult to arrange finance for the trip. It would be easier for me to visit you while I am on study leave at the end of September. If this time is not convenient to you, please, let me know and I can perhaps arrange an alternative.

Best regards.

Yours,
